Grimsby Heritage Advisory Committee

Resolved that the September 9th, 2025, Grimsby Heritage Advisory Committee agenda be approved.

Resolved, that Report H.R. 25-17 Heritage Permit Application – 390 Main Street West, dated September 9, 2025, be received; and That the committee recommends that heritage permit application to permit the permanent affixing of a replica porch on the front façade of 390 Main Street West be approved with the following term(s) and condition(s): a. That the final design and details associated with the installation of the replica porch be delegated to heritage staff for approval.

Resolved, that Report HR 25-19 Heritage Permit Application - 2 5th Street, dated September 9, 2025, be received; and That the committee recommends the Heritage Permit for 2 5th Street be recommended for approval subject to the following term(s) and condition(s): a. That the conservation plan be updated to include the new proposed works. Completed to the satisfaction of the Director of Planning, and; b. That the exterior cladding of the new addition be in a contrasting material to the original exterior cladding on the original cottage, and; c. That the approval of any minor changes to the proposed restoration and renovation to the cottage be reflected in the conservation plan and delegated to staff for approval, to reduce delays in the restoration before winter and snow loads on the temporarily stabilized building.

Resolved, that Report HR 25-20 Heritage Permit Application - 262 Main Street West, dated September 9, 2025, be received; and That the committee recommends the Heritage Permit for 262 Main Street West be recommended for approval subject to the following term(s) and condition(s): a. That the materials within the garage, specifically the hand-hewn rafter beams, be salvaged and incorporated into the property, or offered to salvage companies, to prevent high-quality materials from entering the landfill; and, b. That the garage at 262 Main Street West be photo documented and copies be provided to the Grimsby Historical Society for their archives, and; c. That if required, following demolition, that the exterior wall of the building be repaired with the appropriate lime-based mortars.

Resolved, that Report H.R. 25-21, dated September 9th, 2025, regarding the Recommended Designation Plaque Designs, be received; and That the GHAC recommends that staff investigate alterative materials and cost estimates for the committee to consider for the designation plaques; and That the date on the plaques be further reviewed in consultation with the Grimsby Historical Society and community members.
